Last night, HBO and The Gene Siskel Film Center hosted the Chicago premiere of HBO’s new series INSECURE.
The half-hour comedy series INSECURE (starring Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce) looks at the friendship between two modern-day black women as they deal with their own real-life flaws, attempt to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.
Issa Rae gained major attention when her web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” garnered more than 23 million views on YouTube. Since then, she has produced and acted in several projects. Now HBO has given her the green light for her own cable show.
Yesterday we got a chance to preview the first episode and I must admit it was hilarious. I love how the show incorporates relatable content and extremely comical characters. All the ingredients for “must-see” TV!
I had the chance to ask Issa a couple of brief questions before the screening. She was extremely nice which made it easy to talk to her. Even though we didn’t have much time, the few words she did say may resonate with you in some way.
INSECURE launches its eight-episode season Sunday, Oct. 9th (9:30-10:00 p.m. CT), exclusively on HBO. .
The series will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.
