Isaiah Washington is best known for his role on the hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy, but now he’s making his directorial debut with the new film Corsicana.
The film chronicles the life of Bass Reeves, former slave turned U.S. Marshal who tracks an outlaw gang of killers to the oil-rich town of Corsicana, Texas. The film premiered in Texas in August to rave reviews including a 76% rating by Rotten Tomatoes.
“It’s really important that the Chicago people come out to see this film, and learn the impact of Bass Reeves on Black culture,” said Washington. “It’s a narrative that’s extremely important for all the American people.”
He directed the film to express the importance of Black narratives in Hollywood, he said.
“….to show these movies where African American’s can see themselves…I’m not asking permission from gatekeepers”
Corsicana is playing in select theaters.
