Since the beginning of the New Year, I’ve been attempting to be more health conscious. Being active in the gym, packing the protein and trying to eat lean are just a few things I’ve been doing. Through the journey the hardest thing to do is stay away from sweets! Ugh. I’m like a moth to a flame.
Fruits help but they don’t seem to satisfy that craving. During a recent trip to my favorite spot, Freshii; I decided to order Protein Bites. It’s a new item that they’re promoting. All the ingredients seemed to be something I would enjoy. So I gave it a shot!
One word to describe them…YUMMY!
I always find myself dissecting what I eat to see if I can replicate it at home. Once I surmised all of the ingredients, I went to Allrecipes.com to ensure I had it right. For the most part, I was spot on. These are super easy to make and you can play with the recipe by adding things you like.
Below is the recipe that inspired these sweet treats, enjoy:
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup ground flax seed
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
roasted coconut flakes (optional)
Combine oats, chocolate chips, flax seed, peanut butter, honey, and vanilla extract together in a bowl; form into balls using your hands. Arrange energy bites on a baking sheet and freeze until set, about 1 hour.
