The cold weather has arrived, and with it comes the holiday season. For many people, this is a time to spend with family and friends, celebrating in the warmth and comfort of their homes. But there’s nothing quite like a cup of dark hot chocolate to warm you up on a cold winter day. The endless variations of this delicious drink is what keeps me coming back for more.

A couple of years ago during the holidays, for the adults I made a Spiked White Hot Chocolate, which is a family favorite. This year, I decided to switch it up and use dark chocolate instead and the results were delightful. Whether you like your hot chocolate simple or topped with marshmallows, there’s no doubt that this delicious drink is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.

If you’re looking for a delicious hot chocolate recipe to keep you warm this holiday season, look no further! This recipe for a festive and delicious Dark Hot Chocolate is the perfect blend of rich chocolate and sweetness, and is sure to please any hot chocolate lover.

Dark Hot Chocolate

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings 2 people


  • 2 cups Almond Milk you can use your preferred milk
  • ½ cup Half & Half can be omitted
  • 1 bar 70% Dark Chocolate rough chopped
  • 4 tbsps Cocoa Powder


  • Marshmallows optional
  • Red Sugar Sprinkles optional


  1. Pour almond milk and half & half in saucepan and put on stove over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil. Almond milk can boil over so make sure you watch carefully. 

  2. While waiting for ingredients to boil, rough chop dark chocolate

  3. Rim mug with sugar sprinkles

  4. Place chocolate pieces in mug

  5. After a 2 mins has passed, sprinkle cocoa powder in the sauce pan with milk mixture.

  6. Once the milk mixture has come to a boil, remove pot from heat.

  7. Pour over in mug with chocolate pieces.

  8. Stir ingredients together until well incorporated

  9. Top with marshmallows and sprinkles (optional)
