Last week, I had fun covering the red carpet premiere for Southside With You.
The movie, Southside With You, is a love story inspired by the accounts of the Obama’s, first date.
When you cover a red carpet, it allows the chance to talk to the cast and crew from the film. There are upsides and downsides to red carpet events. One downside, is I can not talk to everyone as long as I would like. Also, if you’re at the end of the line (like I was) then you’re not able to get all the actors. Luckily, John Legend knew the importance of talking to every media outlet. This was my second time interviewing John as an executive producer. The first time was at the TCA’s for WGN America’s popular show “Underground“. Although he may not have remembered me, it’s always nice as a journalist to have something to reference to ignite the conversation. John was just how I remembered him…extremely nice.
I also had the chance to chat with Vanessa Bell Calloway (Coming to America, Shameless) and Richard Tanne (Director). Both of them were extremely nice as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t get an interview with the leads of the film. Nevertheless, I got some great footage and got to see a romantic comedy film for free! SSWY is the perfect “date night” movie.
