If you’re a fan of Tyler Perry’s plays, films, and TV series, David and Tamela Mann are familiar faces in the Madea Universe. And if Kirk Franklin and the Family were in your rotation of favorite CDs throughout the past few decades, you may recognize these two, as well. David and Tamela are gospel singers, actors, and still in love after almost 34 years of marriage. NAACP Image Award winner David Mann and Grammy-winning Tamela Mann are the real deal. Real talented, real funny, and genuinely good people.
Their current project? The couple stars in Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, where David plays Mr. Brown and Tamela plays Cora, the daughter Mr. Brown conceived with Madea. In the series, Mr. Brown purchased a home with the dream of turning it into an assisted living facility– but let’s just say it hasn’t gone exactly to plan. In 2021, the series was voted the #1 scripted comedy series on cable for Black viewers P2+, and the upcoming season promises even more hilarious antics at the assisted living facility. As the newest season release date nears, I had the privilege of chatting with this incredible couple on Instagram Live.
We’ll talk about what it’s like to work with your spouse, their father/daughter on-screen dynamic, and what’s coming this season for both of their characters and the assisted living facility. They’ll share what it’s been like to work with Tyler Perry over the past two decades, and you’ll laugh along as they recall some of the funniest moments on set over the years. Season 3 kicks off this Wednesday, March 23 at 8:30 Central on BET and BET Her, and I can’t think of a better way to spend your Wednesday nights. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with David and Tamela Mann and the entire cast of Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living.
