Omar Epps is a talented actor, rapper, and producer whose past roles span from criminal to doctor– showing his incredible range. Over the course of his career, Omar won nine NAACP Image Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, one MTV Movie Award, one Black Reel Award, and one Screen Actors Guild Award. His undeniable talent shines in his latest film, The Devil You Know, which premiered this month.
On April 1, 2022, The Devil You Know, which Omar Epps executive produced and starred in, premiered in AMC theaters around the country. The crime drama explores toxic family, addiction, and morality. Omar plays Marcus Cowans, an ex-convict set on shedding his vices and getting his life back on track. When it is discovered that a heinous crime is connected to someone in the Cowans family, Marcus’ newfound straight and narrow path is put to the test. This movie questions the truth of the saying, “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.”
I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Omar to discuss his role acting in and executive producing this film, written and directed by Charles Murray. We talk about his career leading up to this point and what it was like playing a character whose inner peace is threatened when his family draws him back into a life he thought he’d left behind.
