Listen, I love a good vision board and a playlist of affirmations, but manifesting is not just cute quotes and waiting for the universe to slide into your DMs. I’ve been listening to Louise Hay since 2018 and I believe in the power of affirmations and intention work with my whole heart. Still, there are a few traps I see people fall into again and again. Here are five ways you might be sabotaging your own manifesting and how to course correct with style and honesty.
1. Telling everyone what you’re manifesting
I get it. You’re excited. But not everyone is rooting for you. There will always be a Negative Nelly or a closed-minded Nancy who projects their fear onto your dream. Keep your energy sacred. Share with your inner circle or a mentor who actually supports you, and otherwise show them with success.
2. You think you’re positive but your energy says otherwise
Saying positive things while carrying anxiety, resentment, or doubt is like trying to stream in 144p. Your words matter, but your energy is the bandwidth. Do the inner work. Breathe, journal, move your body, and notice where your energy is stuck. Align your feelings with your words and watch the signal strengthen.
3. You’re not specific enough
Manifesting is not a wish list written in fog. Be precise. Instead of saying I want success, say I want a freelance contract that pays $5,000 a month and allows me to work three days a week. Specificity gives the universe a target and helps you notice opportunities when they show up.

4. You keep manifesting what you don’t want
Language is powerful. If you keep repeating I do not want to be broke or I do not want to fail, you are feeding the very thing you fear. Reframe it. Say I am building financial freedom or I am learning and growing through every challenge. Your brain hears the words and starts to look for evidence.
5. You are not living in gratitude
Gratitude is the amplifier for manifestation. If you are always focused on lack, you will attract more lack. Start each day naming three real things you are grateful for. Gratitude rewires your perspective and opens you to receive.
This work is messy and beautiful. I have had moments of doubt, nights of overthinking, and days when I wanted to quit. But showing up, doing the inner work, and being honest with myself changed everything. Manifesting is not magic without effort. It is intention plus action plus aligned energy.
Affirmation: I am worthy of my desires, I take aligned action, and I welcome abundance with an open heart.
